Celebrity Racewear

SJP Does it Well in Alexander Mcqueen

Sarah Jessica's style is flirtatious, feminine and bold, she is not afraid to stand out a little from the crowd or try something new. SJP loves combining vintage with a twist of modernism into her looks, always working silhouettes that suit her body and the best designers from; Chanel, Dior,Oscar de la Renta to Alexander Mcqueen. I think the hat definitely steals the show, with its great height and eye catching fine details, it makes you want to look closer at it.

Everybody loves gossip girl

I am sure everyone has heard of Gossip Girl!! The style team do a great job of creating classic looks for our beloved,"queen B" and " little J". Combining traditional looks from the 20's to the 60's and topping them off with amazing mouth drueling accesories.

Navy and cream is a classic look and I think you should expect to see a bit of this around at the races this year as the nautical look is making a come back.

Miranda Kerr

Aussie starlet Miranda kerr, always oozing sophistication and sex appeal. Black and cream always a classic choice. Also Miranda is displaying the alternative from a hat with a rather large flower. I think that it can be a risky idea as the flowers can be too over powering but if you get it right, it looks beautiful.

Hint for the week: Find your own style that not only reflects your personality and enhances your body shape.

until next time xoxo

Head wear - vintage

Your hat should be the final touch to your outfit, something that ties in with the overall look you are going for and also your color scheme.

Vintage hats are great for drawing inspiration from, whether it is reinventing the style of the hat but having it made in a modern color, using different fabrics or simply making a replicate of a design. Vintage hats will always be a winning choice.

Remember don't always play it safe when choosing your hat design as the judges are always looking for something new and innovative. If you are using a simple color scheme for example black and cream, try and get a hat that has elements of interest on it, from using different textures, add a bit of sparkle, a asymmetric design or different levels of height.

Also a very important mistake that many of us have made in the past is that you need to wear the hat, don't let the hat wear you !!
If you are a shorter petite women don't go for the extra large space satellite hat or you might just look like the hat has taken over and landed a space station on your head. Go for small intricate designs that will highlight your outfit and bring out your facial features.

If you are one of the lucky ones who are lovely and tall you have a bit more free range with your hat choice, however don't make the mistake and go too small. The hat will look out of proportion to the rest of you and the judges will not even look twice at your hat which is lost in the birds nest of hair on your head.

Handy hint for the week: A suitable hat, for your suitable height.

Until next time xoxo

Classic and Vintage inspirations

Audrey hepburn

She is a true classic style icon, sophistication, elegance and has a understanding of how to dress like a women.
If you try to replicate this look always remember less is more!

These are all amazing examples of classic vintage looks, that could be draw upon for your own inspiration for this spring racing carnival this year.

Hint for this week: Belting or having a tight waist band on your dress will allow for a more dramatic and fuller skirt, as seen above. This is a very vintage inspired look that can be very spectacular for the Melbourne cup - MYERS FOTF .

Until next week fashionistas

July - Start doing your research

 2009 Milliner award winner

Spring racing season is creeping up slowly on us ladies, you need to be doing your research on the up and coming trends, styles and colors for this seasons spring racing carnival!

2009 Derby day winner

Today I have given you a taste of some ideas from last years winners!! It is always a good idea, if you are stuck to look back on what the judges liked from previous years, you can generally find lots of similarities.

2009 Designs award winner

My suggestions are get out your vogues and your instyle mags and start ripping out the images and the looks you could see yourself wearing this spring carnival. Also see if you can source out in your local area a milliner, so you can have a individual hat/fascinator that matches your look perfectly.

My hint for the week is; classic colors

Until next time fashionistas
